Conforming to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Millenium Development Goals, Akbaraly Foundation was founded in 2008 by Cinzia Catalfamo Akbaraly and her husband Ylias Akbaraly, to provide human security to needy people in Madagascar, through the development of sustainable programs in health, nutrition, education, housing and infrastructure.

The Government of Madagascar recognizes the Akbaraly Foundation as a public utility organization.

The challenge is huge:

- More than two-thirds of the population (68.7 percent) lives below the poverty line
- 60% of the population don't have access to drinking water, including 70% of the rural population
- More than 25% of the population is not literate
- Only $41 per inhabitant and 4.1% of the GDP are allocated to health each year

But the economic and social potential of the island is great and unrivalled :
- 43% of the population is under 15 years old.
- Biodiversity hotspot in which over 80% of its plant and animal species are found nowhere else on Earth.
- Various natural resources : agricultural resources (vanilla, lychees, shrimp), key mineral resources (precious and semi-precious stones, ilmenite and petrol).

Since our inception, we have funded several projects in 3 main areas:

- Enhancement of welfare and well-being in general through funding water supply projects, construction of health and city infrastructure projects
- Development of education through funding school construction projects, vocational training projects
- Fight against breast and gynecologic cancers through the 4 A WOMAN project
